IKEA announces plans to open 10 new stores across the U.S. by 2026

Swedish furniture giant IKEA will open 10 new locations across the United States by 2026, according to the company’s "2025 Annual Report" released Feb. 17.

The expansion plan includes four newly announced sites alongside six locations previously identified last year. The new stores will be located in Phoenix, Arizona; Huntsville, Alabama; Culver City, California; Fort Collins, Colorado; Gurnee Mills, Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Chantilly, Virginia. Texas will see the largest growth with three new locations in Dallas, Rockwall, and Webster.

Rob Olson, interim CEO of IKEA U.S., said the company is prioritizing investment in the American market to make the brand "more affordable, accessible, and sustainable."

IKEA currently operates more than 500 stores worldwide, including over 50 locations in the United States.

Saigon Sentinel Analysis

IKEA’s aggressive expansion across the United States marks a significant pivot in the retail landscape, signaling a firm bet on brick-and-mortar commerce even as digital competition intensifies. This strategy underscores a conviction that the "shopping as leisure" model—anchored by the brand’s signature in-store dining—remains a powerful draw for modern consumers.

The Swedish giant’s site selection highlights a sophisticated demographic play. By looking beyond traditional coastal powerhouses toward the rapidly growing Sun Belt and affluent suburban corridors, IKEA is positioning itself to capture the ongoing internal migration of the American workforce. New investments in markets such as Huntsville, Tulsa, and a three-store push in Texas reflect a calculated effort to follow shifting economic centers and population growth.

This expansion represents a contrarian move in an era defined by store closures and footprint reductions. For the furniture sector, IKEA posits that tactile experience—the ability to touch and test products in person—remains the primary driver of conversion. In a macro environment where younger consumers are increasingly price-sensitive yet design-conscious, IKEA’s flat-pack, affordable-luxury model continues to demonstrate resilience, effectively bridging the gap between value and aesthetic demand.

Impact on Vietnamese Americans

For many Vietnamese-American families—particularly young couples and first-time homebuyers—IKEA has become a go-to destination for its modern aesthetic and affordability. The expansion of new locations in major hubs like Dallas and Culver City, situated just a short drive from Little Saigon, offers the community even more convenience and variety when it comes to furnishing their homes.
