A father and daughter were killed in an Israeli drone attack in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on Saturday morning. Another person died and a young girl was injured in a separate attack on the same day. Israel continues daily airstrikes, shelling, and naval bombardment despite a ceasefire from October 11. Since the ceasefire, 640 Palestinians have died and at least 1,700 have been injured. A total of 72,123 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. The Rafah crossing remains closed after the Iranian attacks. Thousands needing urgent medical treatment cannot leave Gaza. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers and military continue to attack Palestinians.

Saigon Sentinel Analysis

What's remarkable about the current situation in Gaza is not that the violence has stopped—but that the world has stopped paying attention. As US-Israeli planes bombed Iran, drones continued to kill Palestinians amidst near-absolute international media indifference.

The so-called "ceasefire" since October is a prime example of the linguistic paradox in this conflict. In the four months since the ceasefire, an additional 640 people have died. This figure is higher than many casualties in most conflicts considered "active" worldwide. But because Tel Aviv calls it a ceasefire, the international community seems to accept this label.

The Rafah crossing's opening and closing based on geopolitical circumstances is proof that Gaza has become a hostage to broader strategic calculations. When Israel attacked Iran, the crossing closed. Thousands of cancer patients, burned children, and seriously injured individuals cannot leave for treatment. Palestinian lives are adjusted according to Netanyahu's airstrike schedule.

The West Bank is witnessing a surge in Israeli settler violence that is rarely reported. Three people were assaulted by Israeli settlers in Ras al-Ahmar. One person was assaulted by Israeli soldiers near Azmut. More than 1,000 Palestinians have died in the West Bank since October 2023—a figure that would be a major headline if it happened anywhere else.

Human Rights Watch confirms that Israel is restricting medicine, building materials, food, and water. This is the textbook definition of collective punishment—a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.
